A bit of electricity is necessary!

Unlike absorption refrigerators, which also run on gas, a compressor refrigerator only runs on electricity. That means that if you don’t have gas on board or would like to reduce your gas consumption, this variant is definitely a good choice for you. In addition, refrigerators with compressor technology cool very consistently – and are completely independent of the outside temperature. What’s even better? The compressor unit doesn’t care if your motorhome or refrigerator is standing level to the ground. It will always have the same cooling performance.

What connection options do you have?

Refrigerators with compressor technology can be operated via the RV battery with 12 V or via the 230 V mains power – for example, when you arrive at the campsite. In addition, most of these refrigerators can also be operated with solar power. The best part: You don’t have to worry about the power supply because your clever compressor fridge switches automatically to the 12 V mode when your caravan or motorhome is disconnected from the mains power. That way, your food is always consistently kept cool.

Compressor refrigerators – for winter campers and sun worshippers

A big advantage of the compressor refrigerator is its cooling capacity. Because no matter whether it’s really cold outside or incredibly hot, your electrically powered compressor camping fridge always cools wonderfully and evenly. Expeditions into cold regions are just as little of a challenge for it as hot temperatures on southern European summer nights.

Your clever energy saver

A compressor refrigerator for caravans and motorhomes saves a lot of energy. It only consumes about half as much energy as an absorption refrigerator in the electricity mode. While you are driving or when you are not connected to mains power, this appliance takes in power via the 12 V connection – and uses your RV battery for this purpose. Once you’ve arrived at a campsite with a power supply, you can operate your refrigerator via the 230 V mains power.

Low-noise night mode for a good night’s sleep!

For the cooling technology of the compressor refrigerator, a motor is required. Just like at home. And when the motor starts, the engine noise is quite audible. However, since the technology has improved a lot in the meantime, new and modern compressor refrigerators operate very quietly. In addition, there are many models with a night mode. In this mode, they cool particularly quietly so that you and your fellow travellers are not disturbed while dreaming.

How big can your compressor refrigerator be?

As the demand for compressor refrigerators for camping has grown, they are now available for all vehicle models and in almost all sizes:

  • Small and compact with a volume of up to approx. 40 l, for single travellers and couples
  • Medium-sized with a volume of approx. 90 l, for small to medium-sized families and groups
  • Large and spacious with a volume of up to 170 l, for large families and groups

On request, your compressor refrigerator is also available with a freezer compartment. Our high-end models even have extra “boost” functions with which you can refrigerate your food in no time.

The advantages of the compressor refrigerator at a glance

  • Comparatively low power consumption
  • Full cooling capacity even at extreme outside temperatures
  • Works without gas
  • Full cooling capacity even at inclined positions
  • No ventilation slots needed for heat dissipation
  • Low-noise night mode
  • 12 V or 230 V operation possible

Put the door hinges on the other side!

Experienced campers know: If you have limited space, everything should fit exactly. And a fridge door that opens in the “wrong” direction can be quite annoying for everyone involved. How convenient that we have compressor refrigerators in our range, on which you can put the door hinges on the other side. That way, you can decide in which direction your new, cool helper should open, depending on your space requirements. So that you always have a cool drink quickly at hand.

Compressor refrigerators with freezer option

On request, our compressor appliances are also available with a freezer compartment. If you don’t want to do without your ice cubes, your delicious strawberry ice cream or frozen food when you’re out and about, you should take a closer look at these refrigerators. They are also great for preserving leftovers from your barbecue.

Before your camping trip

Before you embark on your well-deserved holiday, we have a few cool energy-saving tips for your compressor refrigerator:

  • Pre-cool your refrigerator at home with mains power the day before you leave.
  • Fill your fridge with already chilled food and drinks.
  • Only ever leave the fridge door open briefly when you fill your fridge or take something out to save electricity.

We wish you a cool journey with your new compressor refrigerator.

Technical terms simply explained

What is automatic energy selection (AES)?

An absorption refrigerator can be operated with electricity and gas. If your refrigerator is equipped with AES (Automatic Energy Selection), it switches automatically. While driving, you cool with 12 V. When parked, your unit is powered by gas. If you have access to a power connection at your campsite or parking space, you can also operate your refrigerator with 230 V when it is parked.

What is an absorption refrigerator?

Absorption technology uses an ammonia-water solution as a refrigerant. In the boiler, this solution is heated by a gas flame or an electric heating cartridge (12 V/230 V), whereby the ammonia is extracted and rises in the form of gas bubbles. The rising ammonia bubbles create a pump effect and end up in the condenser, where the ammonia vapour condenses. The resulting liquid flows into the evaporator in the refrigerator compartment and immediately becomes gaseous again. Heat is extracted from the interior of the refrigerator. The ammonia gas is fed back into the storage tank and absorbed by the weakly concentrated water-ammonia solution in the absorber. Then the cycle starts again.

What is a compressor refrigerator?

Compressor technology uses a gaseous refrigerant. This gas is compressed by a compressor and thus heated. There are cooling fins (condensers) on the back of the refrigerator that release the generated heat into the ambient air – the refrigerant liquefies. This liquid then flows to the evaporator in the refrigerator compartment, where it becomes gaseous again due to pressure reduction. This process removes heat from the inside of the refrigerator and your drinks stay cold. The gas then flows back to the compressor and the cycle starts again.
