Product description

Battery indicator, remaining runtime indicator and more

The remaining capacity of a battery is influenced by factors such as consumed ampere-hours, discharge current, temperature and the age of the battery. Complex software algorithms are necessary to take all these variables into account. In addition to basic indicators such as voltage, current and consumed ampere-hours, the models of the BMV-700 series also display the state of charge, remaining runtime and power consumption in W. The BMV-702 has an additional input that can be programmed to measure voltage (of a second battery), temperature or centre point voltage.

Bluetooth Smart

With the Bluetooth Smart dongle, you can monitor your batteries via an Apple or Android smartphone, tablet, MacBook and other devices.

Easy installation

All electrical connections are made via the circuit board connector on the current shunt. The shunt is connected to the monitor via a standard RJ12 telephone cable. Included in delivery are a 10-metre RJ12 cable and a 2-metre battery cable with a fuse. No additional components are required. Additionally, a separate front panel for a square or round display, a retaining ring for rear installation and screws for front installation are provided.

Easy programming

A quick installation menu and a comprehensive setup menu with scrolling make it easy for the user to set up the monitor. Alternatively, the smartphone app can be downloaded to use a quick and easy solution (Bluetooth Smart dongle required).

Standard functions

  • Battery voltage, current, power, consumed ampere-hours and state of charge
  • Remaining runtime at current discharge rate
  • Programmable visual and audible alarm
  • Programmable relay for switching off non-essential loads or switching on a generator
  • 500 A quick connect shunt and connection set
  • Shunt capacity up to 10,000 A selectable
  • VE.Direct communication port
  • Stores a large amount of historical data for evaluating usage patterns and battery condition
  • Wide input voltage range: 6.5 – 95 V
  • High current measurement resolution of 10 mA (0.01 A)
  • Low power consumption: 2.9 Ah per month (4 mA) at 12 V and 2.2 Ah per month (3 mA) at 24 V

Monitoring the centre point voltage

This function, which is often used in industry to monitor large and costly battery banks, is now available for the first time at a lower price so that any battery bank can be monitored. A battery bank consists of a string of cells connected in series. The centre point voltage is the voltage halfway through the string. Ideally, the centre point voltage is exactly half of the total voltage. In practice, however, there are deviations. These are dependent on numerous factors, such as a different state of charge in new batteries or cells, different temperatures, internal leakage currents, capacities and many more. Large or increasing deviations in the centre point voltage indicate improper battery maintenance or a faulty battery or cell. Corrective action following a centre point voltage alarm can prevent serious damage to an expensive battery. Please also refer to the manual for further information.
