Technical terms simply explained

  • What is a booster?
A charge booster, also called a converter or a charging converter, makes it possible to charge a second battery while driving. The booster is installed between the starter battery and the supply battery.
  • What does CEE mean?
CEE is the abbreviation for “Commission on the Rules for the Approval of the Electrical Equipment”. The CEE standard harmonised European plug connections, i.e. made them uniform. As they make adapters redundant, CEE plug connections are ideal for camping.
  • What are gel batteries?
Gel batteries are built similarly to conventional wet batteries. This means that an electrolyte surrounds the positive and negative electrodes. Due to the addition of silicic acid, this electrolyte is not liquid but gel-like – hence the name. Gel batteries are particularly resistant to vibration and do not leak easily.
  • What are AGM batteries?
AGM stands for “Absorbent Glass Mat” and refers to batteries in which the electrodes are bound in glass fibre fleece. They can withstand more charging cycles than conventional starter batteries and are both leakproof and vibration-resistant.
  • What are lithium batteries?
Colloquially, both lithium batteries and lithium-ion batteries are often referred to as lithium batteries. Unlike lithium-ion batteries, however, actual lithium batteries are not rechargeable. They are called lithium batteries because lithium is used as a reactive material in the negative electrode. Lithium batteries have a low self-discharge rate and can therefore be stored for a long time – perfect for camping.
