The PowerUnit allows you to easily and safely combine a Büttner Elektronik LiFePO4 battery with the existing RV battery (AGM/gel/liquid acid). Both battery systems are connected with the included cable set. A special battery computer monitors and controls the system. It is connected to the BMS (Battery Management System) of the lithium battery and also prevents further charging by the existing charging systems if the lithium battery is fully charged but the charging devices have to charge the installed RV battery even further due to their AGM or gel characteristic. In addition, the battery computer displays the total capacity of the complete battery system still available in the interior.
Advantage: All existing charging devices can remain in the vehicle and continue to be operated. The mostly new or still intact RV battery –regardless of capacity and design – remains installed and works as a pure backup battery. It is used when the lithium battery is almost completely empty or has been switched off by the battery computer due to external circumstances. The disconnection is activated at extremely low temperatures or when the lithium battery must be switched off due to high interior temperatures.
Additional function: If the vehicle is not used as a touring vehicle, it can be set on the battery computer at the touch of a button. As long as this sleep function is activated, the lithium battery is not fully charged but is kept in its optimum partial charge state. This significantly increases the service life of the LiFePO4 battery.
Tip: The longer charging times resulting from the increased battery capacity can be compensated with a supplementary charger. Compact chargers with 25 A or 50 A are optimally suited.
